Coastal Research Institute (CORI), is a governmental organization established in 1972 as an urgent need for monitoring and protecting the Egyptian coasts. CORI is one of the twelve institutes of the National Water Research Center (NWRC).


Sedimentation laboratory:

The institute has two sedimentation laboratories in Abu Quir station and Ras El Bar station. These laboratories are equipped by ovens, shakers, sieve sets, petite tube, electronic Microscope, analytical balances and their accessories.

Water Quality Laboratory:

There is one new water quality-testing laboratory, which equipped with basic and modern equipment to carry out chemical, physical and all types of analysis for such work. These laboratories are equipped by Portable spectrophotometer, scan spectrophotometer, autoclaves, incubators, balances, seccki disc, hot plat with stirrer, shakers and laminar hood, in addition to chemicals and glass wares.

Oceanography Laboratory

This laboratory is located in Abu Quir station. It is dealing with the analysis of the salinity, temperature and suspended sediment in seawater.

Physical model Laboratory:

This lab is under construction in Abu Quir station. Flume with dimensions 40.0×1.2×1.2 m was assembled. The water feeding, discharge system, power system and control room were also provided. Wave generation systems has been designed and assembled. This flume is going to be used to check the stability and efficiency of many coastal structures.
