Coastal Research Institute (CORI), is a governmental organization established in 1972 as an urgent need for monitoring and protecting the Egyptian coasts. CORI is one of the twelve institutes of the National Water Research Center (NWRC).

Basic Research Work

The institute is carrying out basic research studies, concerning the following:

  • Studies of directional waves along the Nile Delta and west of Alexandria.
  • Studies of long shore currents along local areas
  • Studies of off-shore currents and near-shore current circulation.
  • Studies of sediment movement, their rates and directions.
  • Studies of coastal water quality.
  • Studies of accretion/erosion pattern and rate of shoreline movement from the hydrographic profile data.
  • Studies on the variation of the sea level and sea level rise from the tide data.
  • Studies on the impacts of the protective measures on the protected areas and their neighborhoods.
  • Applying mathematical and physical models.
